Mazen

Over the course of 16 weeks, Mazen mentored a toddler in a local nursery to develop his confidence, self-esteem, communication skills and overall happiness. He also participated in reflective group sessions supported by our programme facilitators.

I like coming to school more because I’m getting less detentions.

Before joining the Teens and Toddlers programme, Mazen, 14, struggled to manage his emotions with his family, peers and teachers.

My mentee has helped me gain a lot of patience in stressful situations and made me more confident in dealing with them. When I encouraged my mentee, I felt a sense of achievement and I’m proud.

Together, Mazen and his mentee helped each other step out of their comfort zones.

The Teens and Toddlers programme gave Mazen a new perspective on how he communicates with others, and it boosted his self-esteem. He gained valuable tools to manage his emotions, which allowed him to be more patient and communicate better. As a result, he now speaks to his family and peers with more respect and gets intro less trouble at school.

He said, “I realise that when I look at people and concentrate while they’re talking, they will respect me back and I can understand them more.”

“I don’t answer back to teachers as much and I ask to speak with them in a polite and assertive manner. I like coming to school more because I’m getting less detentions.”

I realise that when I look at people and concentrate while they’re talking, they will respect me back and I can understand them more.
