Sainthavi

Sainthavi joined Teens and Toddlers when she was 13. Today, aged 22, she’s a university graduate with a Chemistry degree, and she credits Teens and Toddlers as an important part of her life.

Teens and Toddlers taught me to always go for every opportunity you can because you never know what doors it can open for you.

“When the opportunity came up to join Teens and Toddlers, I was struggling with low self-esteem, and I was going through a rough period in my life. I was getting bullied, which made me feel isolated, and it stopped me from interacting with students and teachers. I felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone.

My teachers referred me to the programme because I was quiet, nervous and I didn’t contribute in class.

When I first met my mentee, she was very quiet – just like me. But as the weeks went by, she started sharing stories about her life and we spent time together doing activities like playing in the sand, with playdough and making different shapes and animals.

Through the experience, we formed a strong bond and supported each other in gaining confidence. I even made friends with other young people on the programme.

Teens and Toddlers taught me to always go for every opportunity you can because you never know what doors it can open for you.

It helped me develop transferable skills in leadership, teamwork and communication, which I used to secure a part-time job as a Specialist Note Taker. I’m grateful to the Teens and Toddlers programme and the people behind it for supporting me.

I would encourage other young people to take part in Teens and Toddlers. It’s not just about playing with younger children, it’s about making a real impact in their lives. Helping them grow boosts your own confidence and teaches you more about yourself.

Since the programme, I have completed my A-Levels and a university degree, and I’m now actively looking for graduate schemes.”

By 25, I hope to be a successful consultant and a confident woman who knows her worth and continues to inspire other young people.
