Mike Francies appointed as Chair of Power2

We’re pleased to announce that Mike Francies has been appointed as our new Chair.

About Mike

Before he retired, Mike was Co-Managing Partner at Weil, Gotshal and Manges, and was Managing Partner from 2000-2023.

He has been recognised by numerous legal and industry commentators over the years, including: reported by The Lawyer as the most recommended Private Equity lawyer in the UK by general counsel; featured in Private Equity Manager magazine’s ‘Legal Power 30’ list of the 30 most influential private equity lawyers; shortlisted as one of the UK’s Top Innovative Lawyers in the FT Innovative Lawyers Awards; awarded “Partner of the Year” at The Lawyer Awards; recognised as “Deal Lawyer of the Year” at the Legal Business Awards; and listed in The Times’ “Law 100: UK’s Most Powerful Lawyers”.

Commenting on his appointment, Mike said:

I am delighted to be appointed Chair of Trustees for Power2. I have always been a big supporter of initiatives that help young people achieve their potential and overcome their challenges (as the Whitney Houston song says “the children are our future”).

During my nearly 25 years as Managing Partner of Weil in London, we collaborated with the charity, first during their previous incarnation as Teens & Toddlers, through to selecting them as one of the firm’s charity partners as part of Improving Lives & Raising Aspirations, a five-year fundraising partnership.

I have seen the incredible impact of Power2’s work on young people both during my time at Weil and more recently from my visits to see it in action in schools; it was heartwarming to see how the teens and the toddlers responded to each other. I look forward to working closely with the outstanding senior leadership team and board of wide-ranging experience to further scale and expand our mission.  In particular, I am fortunate to have a wonderful Deputy Chair in Lauren Livingston and CEO in Julie Randles to make the task easier.

Julie Randles, CEO of Power2, said:

I am so pleased that Mike has joined us as Chair of Trustees. His sound judgement and wise counsel will help us all to reach even more children and young people with our transformative work. I know I speak for the rest of Power2 and the other Trustees when I say that we’re very lucky to have Mike with us, and I’m excited about what we can all achieve together.
