At Power2 we are committed to limiting the environmental impact of our work. Through both individual and collective efforts to change our ways of working, all our people at every level of the organisation play their part in reducing the resources we consume to help mitigate climate change and its adverse impact on children and their communities.
Policy principles
- To comply with legal obligations under the current Health, Safety and Welfare Act and the Environmental Protection Act, together with all other applicable statutory provisions and relevant codes of practice.
- To achieve good environmental standards in all activities including the reduction, re-use, recycling and disposal of waste.
- To make economic use of energy, water and transport usage to minimise waste in all aspects of the business function.
- To minimise our business mileage to lower the effect on the environment and use alternative means of transport when appropriate.
- To regularly assess the environmental impact resulting from business operations and to remain fully informed of recognised best practices.
- To use environmentally aware and responsible suppliers wherever possible.
- To communicate this Environmental Policy and any proposed actions to all interested parties, including customers, suppliers and employees, encouraging their active involvement in environmental issues
Specific objectives on which Power2 will focus include:
- Reducing energy use – turning the lights off when leaving office is a good way to save energy.
- Reducing water use – checking for dripping taps and pipes can reduce water use within the workplace.
- Minimising waste and recycling more – recycling bins and minimising printing will help reduce the business’ carbon footprint.
- Promoting use of non-motorised transport – encourage staff to walk, cycle, use public transport or car share when attending meetings and/or projects. Provide cycle loan scheme for all employees.
- Promoting use of technology – access to cloud storage when on the move can reduce the amount of printed material required and use of video conferencing will reduce the amount of travel needed.
Monitoring and review
This policy statement will be audited on a routine basis to ensure continual improvement of environmental standards. The implementation and effectiveness of this policy will be monitored by the Chief Executive. The Chief Executive and Senior Management Team will review the policy regularly and recommend and implement actions to ensure the policy is up to date and compliant with current legislation and guidance.
