Introduction

We are a charitable company limited by guarantee incorporated and registered in England under company number 04001308.

Our registered office address is: 26A Warrington Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside, OL6 6AS.

We’re registered with the Charity Commission under number 1099782.

We’re governed by our Board of Trustees which determines our overall strategy and objectives. Our Board of Trustees is made up of volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds – you can find out more about our Board of Trustees in the Who We Are section of our website. There are two committees responsible for Finance and Safeguarding.

Safeguarding

Power2 abides by the duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and is committed to safeguarding practice that reflects statutory responsibilities, government guidance and complies with best practice requirements.

Policy and procedures

We ensure all policies and procedures in respect of safeguarding children are up to date and in line with Working Together to Safeguard Children. The policies are accessible to all staff through the Power2 Breathe system. Policies and procedures are reviewed and revised by the Designated Safeguarding Team on an annual basis and ratified by the Power2 Safeguarding Committee and Board of Trustees. The Power2 safeguarding policy can be viewed in the policies section of our website.

Board of Trustees responsibilities

The Board of Trustees has delegated the Safeguarding Committee to establish and implement the strategic direction of safeguarding activity across the charity in relation to safeguarding children and young people, adults at risk and staff and volunteers, and to provide assurance that legal requirements and national guidance are incorporated into Power2’s processes. The Safeguarding Committee reports to the Board on all Safeguarding issues.

Disclosure & barring checks

Power2 meets statutory requirements in relation to Disclosure & Barring Service – all staff and volunteers who work with Power2 are required to undergo an enhanced DBS check before employment following a risk assessment.

Designated Safeguarding Leads

The Board of Trustees for Power2 has ultimate responsibility for Safeguarding issues.  Operationally, this responsibility within the charity falls to the CEO. As required in Keeping Children Safe the CEO has appointed a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and two Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSL). The DSL oversees the operational application of safeguarding and child protection. Both the DSL and DDSLs are clear about their role, have sufficient time and receive relevant support, and training, to undertake their roles, which includes close contact with outside agencies including social services, the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board and relevant healthcare organisations.

Training

All eligible staff and volunteers are required to undertake relevant safeguarding training. Within Power2 this training takes the form of:

  •  A mandated online training course for all staff each year.
  • Refresher training at the beginning of each academic year coordinated by the DSL and DDSLs.
  • Regular safeguarding updates relating to contextual issues.
  • Mandatory specialised DSL training updated every 3 years.
