At Power2, young people are at the heart of everything we do. Ensuring the wellbeing of some of society’s most vulnerable young people is part of our DNA.

That’s why today we are delighted to launch the impact report for one of our newest programmes – Power2 Rediscover.

When the pandemic hit and schools closed to face-to-face delivery in March 2020, we had to stop delivering our award-winning Teens and Toddlers programme. We did this with a heavy heart and after careful consideration.

However, we knew that we couldn’t leave our young people in the lurch – that was never an option. Calls, messages and emails from them and their parents, carers and teachers told us that they needed our support now more than ever.

We responded to that need with Power2 Rediscover.

Power2 Rediscover is an intensive, one-to-one support and mentoring programme that takes place across 10 sessions. It was designed to provide emotional as well as practical support for young people facing additional challenges as they adapted to life in lockdown, helping them form healthy routines, plan for the future and tackle feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Three blue circles saying 87% of pupils whose wellbeing had been affected since lockdown, 87% of pupils who had shy and withdrawn behaviour, and 75% of pupils who were struggling to re-engage with education had improved by the end of the programme.

Today, we’re thrilled to unveil the impact that Power2 Rediscover has had in its first full year.

The results speak for themselves. A staggering 87% of young people who had had low wellbeing at the start of the programme had improved by the end. The same figure applies for another group – 87% of young people who had been shy and withdrawn had improved. Lastly, 75% of young people struggling to re-engage with education had likewise improved by the end of the programme.

We also know that Power2 Rediscover is reaching young people most in need, such as young people who attract pupil premium funding as well as care-experienced young people:Four blue circles with the writing: 46% female, 54% male; 43% were from minority ethnic groups; 72% pupil premium; and 9% looked after children written on them.

A huge thank you to all our funders for making Power2 Rediscover possible, and to Renaisi for completing a full impact assessment of the programme.
