Stories from the Power2 team
Being a Programme Assistant at Power2 has been phenomenal. I wouldn’t change this job for the world.
When I was 17, I took part in the Teens and Toddlers programme to get me out of my shell and talking to more people. I was from a low-income family and my peers at school couldn’t relate which meant I isolated myself.
On the programme, I came out of my comfort zone and was inspired to believe in myself more. Without Teens and Toddlers, I would have never become the person I am now. I felt like I had a duty to give back.

At 18, I became a programme participant on the Power2 Advance programme for care-experienced young people.
When I entered the care system at 10 years old, I felt like I couldn’t cope with things. I wasn’t happy with my living situation which made it difficult to focus on school. I bottled up my emotions because I didn’t feel loved, and I wasn’t being listened to by anyone.
While on Power2 Advance, I did an internship at Power2 and now I’m a permanent Programme Assistant here. It’s great working with the young people because I can relate to them. They look up to me.

I’ve worked at Power2 for 10 years and during that time I’ve progressed from an Apprentice to Programme Assistant and now a Programme Lead.
Throughout my time here, I’ve been encouraged to step outside my comfort zone and take on new challenges, such as hosting our award ceremonies. This was something I thought I’d never be able to do but it really helped me to gain confidence. I loved every minute of working here.
I love how unique the charity is, and I love seeing the young people progress.

I’ve worked as a Programme Assistant at Power2 for two years now.
When I was younger, I was at risk of getting excluded because I got into fights, and I’d talk back to teachers a lot. I had a lot of anger and energy that I didn’t know how to manage.
At Power2, I see my own reflection in the young people I work with. They completely transform on the programmes. Their facial expressions come to life and it’s honestly breathtaking! I want to help them access their full potential. Working here is one of the best decisions I ever made.

Throughout my career, I’ve primarily supported young people with barriers to learning including those with autism, ADHD and Down’s syndrome. I’ve worked in a variety of settings including mainstream and specialist schools, community areas, theatres and Young Offenders Institutions.
In my role at Power2, I enjoy getting the best out of children and young people, helping them to develop their skills and reach their full potential. Our programmes have such a positive impact, and you can see that they really help the young people.
Recently, I had the opportunity to present at a Pro Bono Economics webinar which looked at the link between low wellbeing, poor school belonging and school avoidance. I love talking about the work we do, so it was nice to showcase it to a wider audience.
