Young Leaders Young Leaders is an annual programme for young people aged 12-18 (to cover the span of secondary and further education) focused on personal, emotional, and social development. It is delivered via weekly term-time sessions and programmed school holiday provision, with individual support sessions for young people who need it most. Sessions are facilitated by Power2 programme staff, specialist practitioners, and volunteers. Young Leaders runs face-to-face and virtually in London and the North West, and virtually in the rest of the UK. Skills for Life Recent projects Impact Skills for Life All young people, whether or not they're new to Power2, are encouraged to join Young Leaders. All members have access to support for up to 3 years or until they turn 18. Through the combination of experiential learning and skills-based development, young people are able to learn and develop the following skills and qualities with Young Leaders: Emotional wellbeing Has a state of balance in thoughts, emotions and behaviours that allows feeling good enough about life and supports ability to fully function. Confidence Has good levels of self-esteem, is willing to ask questions and can work with minimal support. Resilience Has perseverance and demonstrates the determination and ability to bounce back from setbacks. Self-awareness Knows own potential, limitations, feelings. This enables the individual to take responsibility for behaviour and actions, without blaming. Self-efficacy Has belief in own ability to make things happen. Individuals with higher levels of self-efficacy are often more resilient, conscientious and persevering. Self-esteem Feels good enough and has a positive sense of value. This relates closely to life satisfaction and well-being. Effective communication Is able to relate and engage with others with an open and warm attitude. Asks questions that show understanding and conveys information in a clear and concise way, taking the audience into account. Employability Understands how to present oneself in different environments. Understands the requirements of work and different careers. Teamwork Works co-operatively, willing to compromise and has an understanding of roles and team dynamics. Problem solving Has an ability to develop appropriate solutions whilst considering the impact and consequences of decisions on their own life, the lives of others, and society. Organisational skills Knows what is expected, plans ahead and is prepared for tasks. Financial management Has an awareness of the importance of money, is able to plan budgets and understands basic costs involved in day to day living. 1. Recent projects In a 'Come Dine With Us' style event, teams of young people and volunteers from The Prince's Trust were given £15 to create 2 meals in 2.5 hours. Young people were expected to demonstrate skills in effective communication, team work, organisation and financial management. Working with Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, young people were given access to support for gaining employment. Sessions covered a range of topics, including building your personal brand, public speaking, financial education, as well as an employability bootcamp and an event to celebrate Black History Month (in partnership with Goldman Sachs). Young Leaders also enjoy getting out and about! Recently, they got out onto the water at the Water Adventure Centre in the North West and at Laburnum Boat Club in London. Participants had the opportunity to grow in confidence, team work and communication. Definitely an activity to get the blood pumping! Young Leaders had the opportunity to visit UA92 recently and learn about all sorts of routes into work and study. They also got swanky pens to seal the deal. Thanks to Oli and Karim for hosting us! Impact 95% of young people would recommend Young Leaders to other young people. 80% of young people felt that their communication skills and confidence had improved as a result of activities in Young Leaders. 65% of young people said they would attend a virtual session of Young Leaders in the next 6 months 90% of young people said they would attend a face-to-face session in the next 6 months 54% of young people rated the virtual sessions as brilliant!
